Select Digital IDs on the left, and then click the Add ID button. On the right, click More for Identities & Trusted Certificates. In Acrobat, click the Edit menu and choose Preferences > Signatures. Creating Digital ID Steps (run only if Exporting Step 12 fails): NOTE: if you get a password error in step 12, you will need to create a self-signed digital ID per instructions below and choose it to encrypt with for step 11. Click OK in the export confirmation window. Specify a filename and save the file to your Desktop. In the Certify Document window, enter your password from step 8 and click Sign. In the Save as Certified Document window, click OK. In the Password Security - Settings window, enable Require a password to open the document and set a password in the Document Open Password field. When the detailed Export Security Settings dialog appears, click Export. Click Deselect All and check Digital Identities (including private keys). In the window that appears, under Categories on the left, select Security. In Acrobat or Reader, go to Edit > Preferences. If you need to send a certificate, contact your Computing Coordinator for help.Refer to the steps below for exporting and importing a Digital Certificate Signature from Adobe Reader or Acrobat to a new version of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. The second method involves sending the recipient a certificate file that they can import into Acrobat ahead of time that tells Acrobat to trust your signature when it sees it. The easiest way is to have the recipient trust your signature the first time they see it after they've verified that it came from you. (For more information on how this magic works, I invite you to research Public Key Cryptography.) Usually this verification is done by a trusted third party, but in our case you will need to establish this trust relationship directly with the recipient of your signed PDF. they have verified that this particular signature does, in fact, belong to you-any other self-signed signatures bearing your name that did not come from you can easily be identified as forgeries. 
However, your digital signature is unique once you've created it, and once it has been trusted by someone-i.e. TECHNICAL NOTEīy itself your self-signed signature does not uniquely identify you as there is nothing stopping another person from creating a self-signed signature with your name attached to it. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Professional installed on your work computer or if you're unsure, please contact your Computing Coordinator.
Adobe Acrobat Professional makes it easy to create your own digital signature to use when signing PDFs. A digital signature enables you to sign a PDF document just like you would sign a paper form and serves the same purpose: to identify you uniquely in writing.
